Carpentry

As an architect, it is valuable to acquire practical experience. That is precisely why I attended carpentry school for six months. I have also sought opportunities to contribute to various construction and preservation projects whenever they have arisen.

Private house in Oslo
Oslo, 2022

My photos from the construction site.

Participation in constructing a new private house in the Maridalen forest. The house was built in a half-timbering structure around a big exposed rock on a steep site in the Maridalen forest outside Oslo. I got to work alongside carpenters from Tømmermester Kjetil Eriksen for four weeks in the summer of 2022 as an apprentice carpenter.

Rehabilitation of protected building
Copenhagen, 2022

Interior photos of the restoration process at Søetatens Pigeskole during my time at the construction site.

I participated in restoring Søetatens Pigeskole, a protected historic building in central Copenhagen, for client Realdania. I worked alongside skilled carpenters for two weeks in the spring of 2022 for Kjell Pedersen Entreprise, which specialises in historic building restoration and rehabilitation.

Petanque court at Filipstad

Oslo, 2019

Plan and section: Trestykker 2019, photo: Elias Olderbakk

Participation in the student workshop Trestykker 2019. Together with students from AHO and NTNU, we designed and built a petanque pavillion at Filipstadkaia in Oslo in July 2019.

The project aimed to create an informal meeting place for players and spectators. The pine timber structure encircles the petanque court, creating an open yet intimate outdoor space.

Utility building in Western Norway

Værland, 2019

My photos from the workshop
As a student at AHO, I participated in a workshop on the island of Værlandet in Western Norway. We built a utility building for cutting wool from wild sheep at a small-scale farm beside the ocean. The building was constructed with a “grindbygg” construction system, a durable structure made of massive timber and solid wood joinery typically found inside old boat houses in the coastal regions of Norway. Duration: 1 week in autumn 2019.

Repainting of wooden villa
Oslo, 2017-2018

I participated in re-painting a “sveitserstil” villa in Oslo during the summers of 2017 and 2018. The timber logs and exterior wooden cladding were thoroughly washed, scraped, and sanded before being repainted with breathable linseed oil paint.
